Tom Parker has been active in writing songs and musical arrangements for church services since 1966, when he was organist at St. Mary's Seminary in Baltimore under Rev. Eugene Walsh, S.S. Some of his best known compositions are "Be Consoled, My People", "We Come to Join in Your Banquet of Love", and "Praise the Lord, My Soul." His material has been published by World Library Publications and GIA Publications. His music is found in the Catholic Liturgy of the Hours, the Gather hymnal, and was performed on several occasions for Pope John Paul II during his visits to the United States. Although Tom gained his "15 minutes of fame" as a writer of liturgical folk music in the 60's and 70's, he is classically trained in music theory and arranging; his studies at Catholic University included a complete study of theory and harmony, Counterpoint and Fugue with Conrad Bernier, Orchestration with Stephen Douglas Burton, and private composition lessons with George Thaddeus Jones. Music by Tom Parker will now be available through this web site. Here is a sample of his more recent work. |
