For a number of years I worked as a database specialist for various call centers, designing reporting applications using Microsoft Office Access™. Early versions of Access were anything but user friendly -- when you opened the software, you got what was basically a blank page. For that reason most companies paid programmers to build applications for management to use. The current version of MS Access (2007), when opened, presents the user with a number of templates which can easily be adapted by the end user (small business owner, accountant, admin), and which easily interface with other Microsoft Office applications such as Outlook, Business Contact Manager, Word, etc. for uses such as customized mail merges or e-mail broadcasts. Instead of spending hours building a custom application for a client, I would rather work with them to show them how to develop their own application. Anyone familiar with Excel should be able to use Access 2007. I will be glad to submit a proposal based on this kind of consulting. My current fee is $65 per hour. |
